More About Our Honoree
In October 2024, I came to the Emergency Room, with very non-specific symptoms. My wife had noticed sudden onset of confusion, and we worried I might be having a stroke.
Nearly every test came back normal except an elevated calcium level. The doctors did not see any tumor or obvious issue that would cause an elevated calcium level.
Ultimately, it was discovered that I had B-Cell Lymphoma throughout my body. I was evaluated by Dr. Awada and Dr. Kallam, oncologists at St. Rita’s. Next, my wife and my daughter Ronda went with me to The James to create a plan for my chemo. We quickly learned, that a new low-level chemo would be the best course of action, and this was readily available close to home at Mercy St. Rita’s! I live a very active life, and throughout my treatment, I kept busy doing all the things I love to do, like selling real estate and attending my grandkids sporting events! It was wonderful to be able to get all of my treatments right here in Lima by the incredible team at the Cancer Center.
I am pleased to say that after a few minor setbacks along the way, I finished chemo in April 2025 and on May 8th , 2025 my PET scan showed no evidence of cancer. I am grateful that even at my age and with other health challenges, I was blessed to have had such great care so close to home and wonderful support from family and friends.
